McBurney Transport spends £4m on 50 new Volvo FH-460s

08 July 2009

Northern Ireland-based transport operator McBurney has placed an order for 50 FH-460 tractor units, including a flagship FH16-700, worth a total of around £4m.

Costing roughly £75,000 each, the new 460hp trucks form part of McBurney's fleet renewal programme and are  scheduled to enter service before the end of September.

Each one is equipped with an I-Shift automatic gearbox and a Euro-5 compliant 13-litre engine, which enables McBurney Transport to save up to £500 a year on road tax for the rest of the vehicle's life.

In addition to the FH-460s, the operator has also ordered the UK's first 6x2 FH16-700 (estimated at £110,000 depending on spec), which slots into McBurney's specialised line of haulage vehicles.

All 51 trucks will come fitted with Volvo's Dynafleet telematics system that generates reports on any variable from driver performance to fuel usage and currently 95% of McBurney's 250-vehicle fleet is equipped with the program.

The trucks have been purchased on contract maintenance through Dennison Commercials at Ballyclare, and will operate on a variety of general, refrigerated and palletised haulage throughout the UK.
