Hire firm EPL Access goes into administration

09 July 2009

Hydraulic access equipment hire firm EPL Access, which is based in Sandy, Bedfordshire, has gone into administration, leaving 50 drivers' jobs potentially at risk.

The company, which hires out a mixed fleet of 450 vehicles, called in administrator KPMG on 2 July. EPL had experienced cash flow problems because of difficult trading conditions.

Of 105 staff, KPMG says 50  were lorry and van drivers, and they were based at the head office and across seven depots: Birmingham, Bristol, Carlisle, Enfield, Falkirk, Manchester and Winchester.

A KPMG spokeswoman says: "We are looking to trade the business as a going concern, which would hopefully avoid the need for any redundancies."

According to the company website, fully qualified personnel were also available for hire to operate equipment. Products available included van-mounted platforms and scissor lifts.

"Despite the best efforts of its directors, they were unable to secure additional funding and have had no option but to place the company into administration," says Ian Corfield, joint administrator and KPMG director. "We will now be working to stabilise the business while we review the options for the future of the company, which will include restructuring its debt and/or trying to sell the business as a going concern."
