Drinks company Diageo, famous for Guinness, Red Stripe and Smirnoff Vodka, has transferred 15 driving jobs and one management job to an outside haulier in Speyside, Scotland, as part of a reorganisation of its logistics operation.
From the end of September, the drivers, who transport the by-products of whisky rather than whisky itself, will become employees of McPherson Transport, based at Aberlour, Banffshire.
A spokesman for Diageo says that the subcontracting of the work should give the company more flexibility.
The move is part of a wider restructuring at the drinks giant, which is planning to make cost savings of £120m in the year ending June 2010, with a further £40m in the year ending 2012.
