Logistics group Wincanton has extended its transportation and warehousing contract with fashion retailer Matalan until at least 2012.

The three-year deal continues a partnership that dates back to 2003, and will see the firm handling seven million cases and four million hanging garments per year for the retailer.

Wincanton will operate 35 tractors and 110 trailers for Matalan across the UK, as  well a 375,000ft2 facility based in Corby, Northants, to supply stores in the south.

Meanwhile, Matalan will continue to run its own warehouse in Skelmersdale, West Lancs, for stores in the north.

Terry Broadhead, logistics and imports controller for Matalan, says: "The team has worked very closely with us to achieve results that make our business stronger, and there was no contest in deciding that Wincanton should continue managing our Corby warehouse in tandem with it running our transport network."
