Wincanton has bought more than £1m worth of new tractor units to use on its HJ Heinz and Adidas contracts.
The 19 MAN TGX trucks, which have already been introduced into service, will help deliver more than 200 loads each day for the food manufacturer during its busy October to January period. The haulier will also transport 50 loads per day as part of its agreement with the sportswear company.
Both contracts are being managed from Wincanton's regional planning centre at Wigan, Lancs.
Richard Burnett, business unit director at Wincanton, says: "Alongside our regional planning centre, this latest fleet renewal highlights our commitment to investing in our customers' businesses, as well as providing them with the most effective and efficient service available."
Wincanton has not revealed which manufacturer it has chosen to supply the new tractors. More details will follow on www.roadtransport.com.
Last week Wincanton warned of "difficult market conditions in certain areas" and "uncertain economic conditions" in its interim management statement. But the company also says that "new contract gains and cost reductions are substantially offsetting the effect of volume decline in certain parts of the group's businesses".
