Waitrose buys drivers top-spec Actros tractors

26 August 2009

Waitrose has bucked the recent supermarket trend of buying fleet-spec Mercedes-Benz Axors, opting instead for some premium-spec Actros tractors for its new trunking operation.

Fleet engineer Ray Collington says: "We've been trialling an Axor for the last several months, but the Actros is more spacious and better equipped, so it's no surprise that our drivers prefer it. They are co-owners of the business, which means their opinions carry more weight than might be the case if they drove  for some other companies."

They are being double-shifted, and working between Waitrose's Bracknell, Berkshire RDC and two other RDCs in Bardon, Leicestershire and Brinklow, Milton Keynes.
