HGV drivers are being warned by VOSA and the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) not to fall for a CPC exemption card scam, ahead of the new Driver CPC legislation which comes into force on 10 September.

VOSA tells Roadtransport.com that a "so-called" Driver Qualification Exemption Card (DQEC) is being  sold on the internet for £49, but confirms that this product would not be valid or recognised by staff.

From 10 September, drivers will have to fulfil 35 hours' training, which translates as five full days every five years.

After four modules, they will receive a Driver CPC Qualification Card, which must be kept with their driving licence.

A VOSA spokeswoman says a DQEC is "unnecessary." VOSA traffic enforcement policy spokesman Peter McIntyre says: "Our enforcement officers would not use this card to check driver exemption because it has no legal validity.

"We don't want drivers to be spending money on something they don't need."
