The Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD) has revealed the shortlist for its Sustainable Distribution Award, which features two of MT's own award winners - Nestlé and United Biscuits - for their ground-breaking partnership.
The list also includes: Boots UK - for its new urban trailer design; Kimberly-Clark and Kellogg's - for their multi-partnership collaboration; Heart of England Fine Foods - for its collaborative distribution initiative for small and regional food and drink producers; and Tesco - for the CO2 reduction programme in its transport operation.
Richard Hastings, head of planning and delivery at Nestlé UK, says: "We are delighted that we are in with a shout for it.
"It's not so much about the empty miles that we've taken off the road, but it's about changing perceptions - it's about showing what can or can't be achieved. It's about breaking down barriers to make the operation work."
Four companies are also shortlisted for the Supply Chain Excellence category: Booker Group; The Ice Company; Musgrave Group; and Tate & Lyle Sugars. The winners will be unveiled on 13 October at an awards ceremony in London; there are 11 awards in total.
