Weststar still in the race for LDV

19 September 2009

The LDV saga took another twist this week as Malaysian company Weststar announced, through its UK-based solicitors, that it is still in the frame to take over the failed van-maker.

The Weststar statement says: "Due to numerous reports in the last 24 hours, Weststar wish to clarify the position. The Weststar retains its continued interest in the LDV Group, presently in administration.

"Due, at this time, to what  we believe is the delicate nature of the negotiations, it would be inappropriate for Weststar to make any further comments. However, it is envisaged that a further statement will be released in the near future."

Roadtransport.com was informed by several sources that due diligence with a preferred bidder continues for the failed British van manufacturer.

The BBC reported earlier in the week that the Malaysian company had pulled out of talks and suggested that Chinese firm Chinese Ventures Ltd remained in discussions.

Administrator PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) was not able to comment further on the latest developments, and, instead, referred to its own announcement in August that it was in dialogue "with one party on an exclusive basis with the hope of achieving a sale of the business and assets".

At the time, PwC said the party was "studying the options for recommencing some production,  at a time yet to be determined, at the Washwood Heath site".
