Container haulier Elite Transport Services has purchased 23 top-spec Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor units for use on trunking operations to and from the company's six depots.
The Manchester-based firm bought the trucks on a full four-year repair and maintenance contract and Elite has specified each Mercedes with in-cab fridges, microwave ovens, and TV/DVD systems complete with Freeview, .
Elite general manager Alan Wells says: "We felt the slow-down in the economy towards the end of last year, but the market is now starting to move in the right direction.
"The latest Actros is an impressive product, and driver feedback on the demonstration unit was very positive. It returned an average of nine mpg, which we were certainly happy with because, although we're rarely running at the full 44 tonnes, a container pulled on a skeletal trailer that cannot be close-coupled is far from being the most aerodynamic vehicle on the road."
Elite, based in Urmston, near Manchester, boasts an annual turnover of £30m.
