NYK wins contract extensions

14 October 2009

NYK Logistics has renewed its contract to distribute TVs, DVD players, home-entertainment systems and digital cameras throughout the UK and Ireland for Samsung Electronics.

The logistics company has also extended its deal with the South Korean firm to transport mobile phones as well as white goods such as domestic appliances.

Ian Veitch, NYK Logistics chief executive, says: "The renewal and extensions  to these contracts means that Samsung's entire UK supply chain continues to be outsourced to NYK from point-of-entry to point-of-delivery.

"We will continue to work in partnership with Samsung to ensure an agile supply chain, with the flexibility to accommodate changes in product range and growth."

Meanwhile, following a competitive tender, NYK has been awarded a contract extension from Volkswagen Logistics to deliver components to the Bentley Motors manufacturing facility in Crewe.

NYK will transport about 6,000 different parts to the Cheshire plant from 150 UK-based suppliers and 460 companies throughout Europe.

Paul Demet, deputy chief executive for NYK Logistics (UK) adds: "This is great news and was achieved fundamentally as a result of the quality of service we have provided to Bentley over the past few years."
