Wincanton has signed an agreement to run an import and distribution operation for Micheldever Tyres.

The logistics firm will transport containers from ports to one of its existing sites in Kettering, Northants.

It will then distribute about 50,000 tyres a week to wholesale distribution centres across the country.

Martin Taylor, managing director, retail, at Wincanton, says: "We have  a proven capability of developing innovative import solutions, and we were able to demonstrate to Micheldever Tyres the areas in which we could improve the efficiency of its business.

"With one-in-five tyres on UK roads supplied by Micheldever, this new contract is one that has significant potential for growth for the benefit of both companies."

Dave Haddock, logistics director at Micheldever, adds: "The move to working with Wincanton was a logical one due to its expertise in container management, together with the existing infrastructure and ability to streamline our container operations."
