Nightfreight has replaced its fuel surcharge with a fuel tax recovery charge to make customers more aware of the extra costs a rise in fuel duty imposes on operators.
"Fuel surcharges have been around for some time now and are essentially a way for operators to recover the rising cost of fuel from customers," says Nightfreight chairman Robbie Burns. "This is fine, but it's almost like a hidden cost, so what I'm advocating is separating it out and making it more transparent for customers."
The Willenhall, West Midlands firm introduced the new system last month in conjunction with the latest fuel duty rise of 2p/litre.
"We feel it's a fairer way of separating out the cost of fuel and recognises that there's been three fuel duty hikes in less than a year," adds Burns.
