Iveco Stralises in for the long haul at CS Bull

29 October 2009

Kent-based haulier CS Bull has taken delivery of three new Iveco Stralis tractor units worth £165,000 for use on long-distance operations across Europe.

Since the vehicles will be spending a majority of their time working on the Continent, CS Bull has specified the AS440 4x2 tractor units as left-hand-drive vehicles, and, due to the nature of its long-haul business,  the firm has also opted for Iveco's Active Space Super cabs, including water-based night heaters (replacing the standard Eberspächer air heater), which doubles-up as an engine heater for cold climates.

There's even a 1,160-litre long-range fuel tank and a 100-litre AdBlue tank – a necessary feature considering CS Bull operates in the Baltic States, Central Asia, North Africa and the Middle East.

Clive Bull, managing director of CS Bull, says: "We've fitted the bigger diesel tanks for two reasons. First, you don't have to continually stop to refuel and, second, to take advantage of cheaper fuel prices in Europe. ALos, our bigger AdBlue tanks mean we don't have to worry about topping-up as often, plus AdBlue isn't as freely available in places such as North Africa and Eastern Europe."

Bull added that the new trucks are currently returning 8.6mpg.

He continues: "They're doing slightly better than the MAN TGA and older Stralises they've replaced,  but when you factor in the cost of AdBlue, you're back to where you started."

All three trucks were purchased on a three-year Iveco Elements repair and maintenance contract through Maidstone, Kent-based Haynes Trucks.
