Animal feed transporter fined £25,000

Monday 16 November 2009 01:57

A Northern Ireland-based haulier has been fined £25,000 after poor working practices led to the contamination of an animal feed load.

Armagh-based Francis Campbell and Sons pleaded guilty to failing to comply with EC and animal by-product regulations.

Last year, VOSA discovered that the firm was transporting contaminated organic animal feed.

Carlisle Crown Court heard the lorry driver had collected the cargo from animal feed manufacturer BOCM PAULS in Penrith, but the trailer had been used to deliver animal by-products the day before.

The firm was fined £25,000 and was ordered to pay £4,500 costs.
