QD Stores signs up to PortalNorwich scheme

Monday 16 November 2009 05:21

Retailer QD Stores has entered a long-term partnership with Snetterton, Norwich-based Foulger Transport in order to take advantage of the haulier's congestion cutting PortalNorwich scheme.

Under TUPE regulations, 10 QD Stores lorry drivers have transferred to Foulger Transport, which will now handle distribution to more than 20 QD outlets.

The retailer's Norwich operations will be able to take advantage of PortalNorwich, an initiative which allows Foulger Transport to distribute consolidated loads into the city using designated bus lanes.

"Our arrangement will not only be in place to provide a more efficient delivery service to our stores, but it is also our intent to work closely with our suppliers to offer cost effective backhaul opportunities in our ongoing commitment to promote a greener environment," says Chris Jacks, business development consultant for QD Stores.

Foulger has admitted before that just one client was using PortalNorwich because smaller retailers were happy to use the delivery company their supplier uses. However, the company says it expects to announce new partnerships in the near future.
