BAA awards DHL £22.5m deal extension

Tuesday 17 November 2009 09:15

BAA Heathrow Airport has awarded DHL Supply Chain a £22.5m contract extension to run the Heathrow Consolidation Centre (HCC) until late 2012.

The two-and-a-half-year renewal adds to a partnership that began in 2001, with the logistics firm consolidating 700 inbound deliveries a week, into 300 outbound. Last year, DHL said it saved 218,000km through consolidating loads.

DHL distributes to 323 retail and catering outlets within the airport, as all firms operating there use the HCC as part of their contracts.

"Through its strong partnership and understanding of airport rules of operation, DHL has consistently delivered a high level of customer service to the retailers by developing systems to meet security demands," says Steve Buckley, head of category at BAA.
