A councillor in a historic market town in Cheshire says he is struggling to find support for a much-needed secure lorry park.
Mike Parsons says that because drivers are relying on industrial estates and quiet roads to park up in, local residents in Middlewich are unaware of the growing problem.
Each night he estimates that about 35 drivers take a risk and park wherever they can near Junction 18 of the M6.
Parsons, who used to work in the logistics industry, says the presence of industrial estates, a Tesco RDC and a popular tanker wash make the area a magnet for HGVs.
"Locals say it's not my problem, but it's everyone's problem,' he states. 'It's unsafe for the drivers as well. What we want to do is provide the right facilities. There's no one about in the areas they park in, especially at night, and they are vulnerable.'
The councillor hopes to find a developer to investigate the viability of building a secure lorry park.
