With more than two million HGV licence-holders in the UK alone (DVLA, July 2009), it goes without saying that there will be a few bad eggs among them - and don't the newspapers like to ram it down our throats?
Any criminal who has even glanced at a wagon or a forklift instantly becomes a lorry driver (or juggernaut driver if you read the Daily Mail) for the duration of the story. You could be mistaken for thinking that the only way to make the journey from truck driver to stardom is by murdering somebody!
Not so, and our list of famous former truck drivers who reached levels of stardom for all the right reasons is the proof.
It was surprisingly tough coming up with the list, and we had to miss out a few worthy candidates. Hollywood star Chevy Chase almost made our shortlist, as did Richard Pryor and Liam Neeson. We even considered including Pigeon Street star 'Long Distance Clara' (pictured)!
