SfL revamps apprenticeship programme

Friday 05 February 2010 02:13

Industry training council Skills for Logistics is revamping its apprenticeship schemes to enable young workers to gain experience before opting for a specific career path.

SfL expects to launch the new Logistics Apprenticeship in the autumn.

"The main difference will be at registration," says John Lawrence, programmes development and implementation manager.

He adds: "Currently, apprentices sign to a specific role, such as warehousing and storage or driving goods vehicles. The new Logistics Apprenticeship will give them the option to gain experience in the sector before deciding which path to pursue."

The new framework will include advanced and higher apprenticeships. Current basic options include driving goods vehicles; traffic specialists; warehouse specialists and postal operatives.
