One Minute Interview: Martyn Pointer, ATS Euromaster

Thursday 11 March 2010 10:00

The CV Operator Show will be the first time in two years that the whole transport industry has come together to showcase the latest innovations in vehicle technology. But it will also be a great networking event, giving operators chance to meet up with suppliers old and new.

To introduce some of the key people who will be running stands at the show, we are asking them to take part in an informal One Minute Interview.

If you would like to take the One Minute Interview challenge please email steve.hobson@rbi.co.uk.

Martyn Pointer

Head of Regional Sales
ATS Euromaster

What are you most looking forward to seeing at the 2010 Commercial Vehicle Operator Show?

It’s not so much what, it’s more a question of who. The show provides a great opportunity for visitors to have an exploratory conversation about their tyres with our experienced team. This includes the offer of a free tyre inspection for up to 50 vehicles, allowing fleets to benchmark the performance of their existing supplier.

What do you think visitors are going to be looking for at the 2010 Commercial Vehicle Operator Show?

A chance to network and for the industry to be together under the same roof for the first time in two years.

Why do you think it is important to have a presence at the 2010 Commercial Vehicle Operator Show?

As the largest tyre specialist in the industry, it’s one of the most important dates in our calendar.  The show has a reputation for attracting a widespread audience, from local authorities and logistics companies to national hauliers and major van fleet operators – all areas where ATS Euromaster has extensive skills.

What do you hope to gain from the 2010 Commercial Vehicle Operator Show?

A chance to talk to fleets which already have a tyre supplier, but not one which is proactively managing and servicing their tyres to get the best performance. This is a core competency for ATS Euromaster, and an area where we can really help operators to make valuable savings.

How did you get into the industry?

I was told, when I joined ATS Euromaster in August 2009, that it was a natural progression from the vehicle leasing sector!

How do you see the industry in the next five years?

I believe we’ll see a greater shift towards providers which can offer a wider range of services both at a local and national level. Many customers want to focus on core business activities and having a service provider who can offer a ‘one-stop shop’ facility will enable them to do this.

If you could have a 60-minute chat with anyone (dead or alive), who would it be?

I would like to know where the 60 minutes of spare time was coming from! If I had to choose someone it would probably be my father who passed away some 10 years ago.

What motivates you?

Achieving results by making a difference to my team, the business and our customers!

What has been your most rewarding professional achievement to date?

There have been a few but the most rewarding aspect of any management role is to coach, develop and help others achieve their goals.

Can you imagine a world without vans, trucks and trailers?

No, it wouldn’t be good for business!
