Depot General Manager - West Midlands (Permanent)

Our client is a major UK express parcels carrier operating in a very challenging market and are committed to providing a high quality home and business delivery service nationwide.

They are currently seeking a Depot General Manager for a depot based in the West Midlands.

This is an outstanding opportunity to take on a Depot General Manager role and take responsibility for the running of a depot in achieving the high efficiency and customer service standards our client sets.

All your management and people development skills will be called into play in this dynamic operational role.
With a positive and practical approach, you will develop a team culture that is both commercially and customer orientated, ensuring performance, costs and resources meet our client’s objectives.

You will be planning and optimising depot resources, managing and motivating warehouse and transport staff, developing and driving total quality and customer services initiatives and leadership and motivation of your team. As well as succeeding in the existing operation there is scope to devise change and improvement to meet changing market needs.

Key objectives are to ensure the depot meets or exceed service delivery commitments for all clients and to ensure the depot delivers targeted or better than cost per unit performance, remove inefficiencies within the operation and react immediately to volume fluctuations to prevent higher unit costs.

The job holder will contribute to the financial budgeting process and will ensure their depot delivers targeted or better than PBIT performance, addressing risk areas and ensuring strong security controls and disciplines.

They will develop robust plans for peak and critical activities to ensure greater degree of successful performance and will plan, lead and manage change to ensure all programmes are delivered and implemented to plan and budget.

Finally they will develop and maintain the processes and a culture that seeks and delivers continuous improvement whilst seeking to ensure consistency of operations and will develop and maintain harmonious employee relations.

Knowledge and Skills:

To meet this challenge you will be an accomplished Depot General Manager with your experience gained in an express parcels or similar multi –drop environment giving exposure to P and L accountability, business development, quality systems and procedures and budgetary control.

Superb communication skills and instant credibility are essential, as is an innovative and analytical approach. You will combine ambition with a flexible outlook, strong commercial acumen and have the ability to multi-task in order to handle competing priorities

Astute with a strong customer focus, you will have the confidence to make an immediate contribution. You will be a relationship builder and team player incorporating an involved style with a determination to succeed and make things happen.

With proven skills in developing and motivating your team members towards achieving common goals, you must demonstrate your commitment to the growth and development of a customer focused and quality service.

Knowledge of HASAW, road transport and employment legislation is essential and experience of dealing with trade unions is highly desirable.

You will be a strong and confident communicator, and have a flexible and enthusiastic approach. Prospects for promotion are excellent in this multi-site express parcels carrier.
