Road Tests & Reviews: Daewoo Avia D75

While on the face of it the Avia D75 has plenty going for it (proven Cummins-ZF driveline, a simple chassis design and a stylish cab) cracking the UK market has proved a much tougher task than could have been imagined.

A number of false starts under previous Daewoo branding did nothing to inspire confidence and it's been an uphill task ever since.

With newer products on the market and new market entrants from the likes of Hino, the job doesn't appear to be getting any easier with time. But to overlook the D75 entirely wouldn't be doing it justice. Granted, it doesn't feel as complete as some of its rivals, and the interior doesn't completely convince, but the proven driveline and a competitive list price must count for something.

Perhaps the most promising signs for Avia is its willingness to give innovation a blast and the new electric vehicle from Smith Electric Vehicles, which employs the D75 cab and chassis, may be the lifeline that Avia needs.

Pros:

  • Established driveline
  • Competitive list price

Cons:

  • Starting to age
  • Dull cabin
