DAF CF75 DISTRIBUTION:
DAF's CF covers the full range of rigids and tractors; for the distribution sector CF65 and CF75 are offered in 4x2 and 6x2 rigid variants.
The CF65 takes a lightweight Cummins ISBe six-cylinder engine - the same as the LF55 - in ratings from 220 to 280hp. The CF75 is for heavier weight operations and employs DAF's own 9.2-litre engine at 250, 310 or 360hp.
The latest addition to the CF spec is a new XF-style roof and an improved mattress. All CFs use the same cab in day and sleeper format and a high level of driver comfort and quality is offered - the control responses and overall quality feel would be welcome in a 3.5-tonne van.
Despite strengthening competition the CF remains a strong choice among the current crop of distribution vehicles, offering an excellent combination of performance, comfort and manoeuvrability.
DAF's recent dominance of every UK market sector it competes in is a sure sign that it is making what buyers want.
DAF CF75 TIPPER
Options start at 18 tonnes with the LF55, and go on to the popular CF75 and 85.
There are three options for the three different axle configurations, making it adaptable for just about any type of job. On four axles, the 85 is best - and although the low-alloy chassis helps save some weight, the 12.9-litre engine is heavier than many rivals' units. Hub-reduction drive axles are available on the 380hp and 430hp CF85. Layout options compromise day, sleeper and space-cab. Offered as an all-round package, operators seem to struggle to beat it.
But maybe because of that popularity Paccar has done little to liven up the old favourite during 2007. As a result it risks falling behind - DAF needs to work out a way to stay one step ahead.
DAF CF75 TRACTOR:
For entry-level Artic buyers, DAF'S CF75 with a day or sleeper cab comes solely as a 4x2.
Its 6.0-litre Euro-4/5 Paccar CE (Cummins) diesel produces 250/360hp. Options include a day, sleeper or SpaceCab on top, plus a choice of manual gearboxes or the AS-Tronic auto.
The CF75 is an archetypal fleet machine which is very versatile so if your budget's tight, you travel urban routes or the load isn't top-end in terms of weight, this is an ideal option.
But if you buy one, make sure it has something to appease the used market because the residuals won't add up to much. Buying outright and keeping it for the job it's intended could be a more cost effective option.
