Road Tests & Reviews: Fiat Doblò Cargo

Straight from the school of quirkiness we have the Doblo from Fiat, which takes on the twin titans from Ford and Volkswagen. With competition like this the little Italian has its work cut out, but there is still plenty to like.
Available in two roof heights, with the larger providing a useful 3.8m3, the 2006 International Van of the Year's individual exterior styling is carried on inside with plenty of neat touches.

The company's acclaimed Multijet engine range, here in 1.3 and 1.9-litre guises, helps make the Doblo a relaxing dirve in town, where the power delivery and quick steering combine well.

It loses a little to the Caddy due to softer suspension and controls, but it never feels too off the pace.

The load area is well laid out; access, via twin side sliding doors and a rear hatch, allows you to make full use of the space.

Pros:

  • Acclaimed engine
  • Individual styling

Cons:

  • Feels softer to drive than its main rivals
