Road Tests & Reviews: Isuzu Truck NPR (1996 - )Euro 4

In the face of the market snobbery against these Asian- designed forward-control machines, the Isuzu UK organization must be applauded for establishing the Isuzu as a serious market player.

Indeed the brand is now so serious that a new 12 - 15-tonner is expected to flex it smuscle at the CV show in April. Now occupying a purpose-designed HQ, Isuzu has built a reputation for unrivalled customer care and is rolling out a product line-up to match.

Available at 3.5-tonnes (NKR), 5.0/6.2 tonnes (NPR) and 7.5 tonnes (NQR), what makes it stand out is the inclusion of the standard automated transmission (Easyshift).

This opens it up to novices and part-time drivers alike who don't want to be overwhelmed when occasionally in the driving seat - and it works well too, complementing the Isuzu's forgiving nature.

Pros:

  • Competitive payload
  • Standard auto box
  • Cheaper than many rivals

Cons:

  • Small cab lacks quality
  • The engine is a little lethargic
