Road Tests:
Kia wouldn't have been top of our list when guessing the next manufacturer to enter the van market, but the Koreans obviously saw a niche waiting to be filled. They foolowed the well-trodden path of ripping the back seats out of an SUV, blanking the windows and callint it a van. On a whole, the excercise with the Sorento is successful. Car-like cab comfort, and standard of equipment is a given, and performance is impressive thanks to a surprisingly effective and economical common-rail engine. Payload is good by class standards.
It drives well on and off-road, until you happen upon a corner. Ask it to deviate from a straight line and it will show all the response of a hovercraft, before developing an excitiing degree of oversteer, especially in the wet. Still you might consider the wad of cash saved as just compensation.
