Road Tests & Reviews: MAN TG-M (2006 - )Euro 4

MAN TGM DISTRIBUTION:
The middleweight TGM is an established part of MAN's UK range at 15 or 18 tonnes GVW. Three ratings of the D08 engine combine with eight wheelbases, three cabs and 19.5 and 22.5in wheels to give operators an extensive range to pick from.

MAN has taken the bold move to spec the 12-speed TipMatic automated box as standard but there's a manual option if you want. The self-changing method would seem to be the way to go for urban operators.

We have yet to carry out a full roadtest, but an initial drive has left us with positive expectations. The D08 engine is very willing and able to run tall gearing that should have a beneficial effect on economy.

The driving experience proved remarkably similar to the bigger TGA, indicating that corners haven't been cut in the downsizing. Build quality, handling and visibility were the high points during our drive.

MAN TGM TIPPER:

Pros:

  • DISTRIBUTION: Traditional MAN solidity; Enthusiastic engine.
  • TIPPER: Payload; Functional; Sturdy.

Cons:

  • DISTRIBUTION: Not the most spacious cab; Engine lightweight at 26 tonnes.
  • TIPPER: Options.
