Road Tests & Reviews: Peugeot Partner (1996 - )

What you get with the Berlingo/Partner is a little van that combines simple design with real ability. It's been with us for a fair few years now, but constant updating and honing has managed to keep it a viable option. The pick of the bunch is the 2.0-litre which manages to combine surprising urge with decent fuel economy.

It also rides well, displaying a strong level of composure whether laden or unladen and this ability transfers into corners where it remains flat and unruffled. It's in its element in town thanks to the quick steering and strong power delivery, which offers torque on tap from low down. Load space is competitive and you can choose between two payloads.

However, even with its practical cabin it doesn't manage to completely convince, lacking the solidity of the heavier competition to make it onto the podium.

Pros:

  • Strong 2.0-litre engine
  • Ideal for urban work...

Cons:

  • ...But not for long distances
