Road Tests & Reviews: Renault Trucks Kerax (1997 - )Euro 4

Road Tests:

The lander is the welcome addition here,; it's based on the blueprint of the Premium. It's been in the UK before but now has a strengthened chassis. The French see the British market as a key sector.

The 8x4 version will break cover at the CV show in April.
Engines begin with the DXi7, built in conjunction with Deutz in Germany, and top out with the 10.8-litre DXi11; there are three transmissions.

The Kerax continues its merry, powerful, robust way and there are enough driveline options to make it a bit of a tramper as well.

It is avaialable as a 6x4 tractor unit as well and it's this market that might well save it.

CM has put a few through their paces and they always come out well but it skerbweight, even for a muckaway, seems to prove an Achilles heel. With the arrival of the Lander in the lightweight market it might help Kerax pick up the pace.

Pros:

  • Kerax's robust chassis
  • Global cab

Cons:

  • Power based on smaller engines
