Road Tests & Reviews: MAN TGX

We first met the TGX with an exclusive look at a very early example supporting the victorious Audi team at the Le Mans 24 Hour race.

Cab build quality, layout, storage and general ambience have all been improved beyond recognition, arguably overtaking the DAF XF in driver appeal. And the shape is more aerodynamic, with a contribution to fuel efficiency from the D20 and D26 engines.

MAN's UK efforts to provide an all-EGR Euro-4/5 approach were boosted with the appearance at last October's RAI Show of the EGR Euro-5 engine, which will replace the interim SCR solution. If the TGX is remembered for anything though, it will be in 680hp/3,000Nm V8 form as the truck that gave MAN the lead in the power race.

Pros:

  • Cab quality
  • Proven drivelines, Tipmatic as standard
  • Fuel economy

Cons:

  • Too soon for anything to reveal itself
