The latest Volvo FL, and its heavier duty brother the FE, are the clearest signs yet of the tightening ties between the Swedes and their French cousins.
Look beyond the traditional Volvo diagonal grille bar and you may notioce a certain familiarity about the new models - they mark the first major flow of technology to reach Sweden from its French stablemate.
Slightly over-simplified, the FL is a Volvo-badged version of the latest Renault Midlum from 12-18 tonnes GVW. All the Midlum's features, including the dash-mounted gearshift and the Deutz-based engine range, are included. But one Volvo first is the CitiPro, an off-the-shelf 12-tonner with a standard box body and tail-lift.
