Toyota Hilux 270by: Kevin Swallow
As manufacturers flock towards common-rail technology it was only a matter of time before Toyota added it to its pickup range. Sure, the high-powered Toyota double cab VX pickup is more likley to collect groceries from the supermarket and kids from school than trek across the moors with four hay bales in the back in the height of winter but, as every farmer who owns a 4x4 will tell you, it still has to earn its corn...
Verdict
Some would argue that the 4x4 double cab is slowly turning into a sports utility vehicle for the priveleged rather than a durable workhorse/runaround. Only those who really need one, coupled with folks who can more than afford a top-of-the-range Hilux to pick up the kids in the afternoon, will splash out.
It has a more than powerful enough engine to do pretty much what you want with it, and its fuel figure is very respectable against the competition. This, combined with a revamped exterior and new look interior, makes the Hilux VX an attractive package.
