Big rigids literally deliver us our daily bread and Volvo's latest brings high-tech to our most basic needs.

Verdict

Volvo's FM9 26-tonne distribution platform manages to combine up-to-date technology with traditional values to produce an effective solution to one of the most basic needs of road transport - getting products from the production line to the shop. It does so efficiently and, with I-Shift and the big cab, in a way that certainly won't have your drivers scouring the situation vacant pages. On the evidence, 340hp seems a good rating for 26-tonnes. It's easily capable of maintaining whatever speed is appropriate while sipping fuel at an acceptably modest rate. The steering tag axle joins I-Shift in being a good thing around town. All in all, we thoroughly approave of the FM9 as a large-bodied urban warrior.
