Bouncing Backby: Julian Milnes
After two years out of the game the Fiesta Van is back.
But with plenty of alternative CDVs out there will the all-new model be able to re-establish itself?
Verdict
By their very nature, CDVs can never be seen as no-compromise workhorses. Manufacturers are limited in their vehicle development due to the constrictions of the platform - it's a case of working with what you've got.
But luckily the Fiesta van started life as a competent passenger car and some features like the interior, chassis and engine (though this particular size is new) didn't need much altering in the first place.
But also due to its roots we won't be getting a long-wheelbase or high-roof version, limiting its appeal to some buyers. For those options you have to look at purpose-built vehicles such as the Connect and upwards. But for mail devery businesses, plumbers, florists and the like where size is not an issue the Fiesta Van performs admirably and is backed up by a competitive cost of ownership. It's been out of the game for a while, but the new version hits all the right notes.
