Nine Into Six Goes

Take DAF's 360hp, 9.2-litre diesel, put it in a CF75 six-wheeler and you've got a cracking tipper.

Verdict

If by now you've got the impression that we like the Daf CF65 six-wheeler you're not mistaken. We do - a lot. It's frugal, fast and has the right kerbweight to make it a really attractive machine. It also shows the clear advantage of speccing something bigger than a six-litre lump in a three-axle tipper. On th emove, the Daf six-wheeler has superb road manners and real driveability thanks to its punchy nine-litre performance. of course, this wouldn't be a Commercial Motor test if we didn't find at least some faults - after all, we're no different to operators. We reckon Daf needs to improve the feel of the CF tipper's disc/drum brakes and also look at those interior noise levels. That said, we'd be perfectly happy earning a living with the CF75.380 and if rival manufacturers think we've spent too much time praising it, or if their own product is better, then all they have to do is give us a tipper to test - and we'll prove it.
