It's fast, thrifty and a pleasure to drive. If you're looking for a workhorse with three times the payload of a 7.5-tonner, you won't go far wrong with an Iveco Eurocargo 18-tonner

Verdict

Iveco doesn't claim that the Eurocargo is anything more than a highly efficient workhorse, with few technological novelties up its sleeve. But what it's intended to do, it does quietly and efficiently. We found a few minor failings, with the low-geared steering being th emost irritating. Moving the detent for the mirror arms outwards should be a minor engineering job, while the rest of our nit-picking can be blamed on Latin eccentricity. Our only serious operational reservation concerns the six-speed transmisson's ability to handle a relatively simple hill start - we'd advise opting for the none-speeder if you plan to venture into the tougher parts of the UK. But as a workhorse, it's one that's friendly to driver and owner alike.
