Fuel's Paradise

The Vito panel van is the smallest CV produced by Mercedes-Benz. A mid-life makeover turned it from the runt of the litter to apowerful and functional workhorse heralded as "one van for all purposes". We've been running one for six months to check out this new-found versatility.

Verdict

With an impressive fuel figure the Vito is certainly a viable mid-sized panel van option, and drivers will be more than happy with the level of power. The basic list price is higher than its closest compatitors and that basketload of optional extras pushes the final cost way up. Payload is competitive but the Vito lacks a chassis-cab option. Nonetheless it has come a long way since its launch and vast improvements in the dirveability and driveline stakes makes the latest model far more competitive than its predecessor. In short, it certainly looks the part. We have little doubt that the fuel consumption will continue to improve, and all the CM staffers who have driven the Vito over the past six months enjoyed the experience. That must count for something.
