We recently tested Daf’s lightweight LF offering; now it’s Renault’s turn.

Verdict

Hopefully having proved the case for running bigger distribution four-wheelers than might be obvious, the next question is where to buy it. Renault's offering may no longer be the absolute cutting edge of white-hot technology but it has everything that matters. Probably our biggest reservation is the relative lack of torque from what should be, on the face of it, as tate-of-the-art common rail engine. While adequate around town, the 220hp/six-speed combination struggles when the going gets tough. On the positive side, it offers a comfortable and safe driving experience, good if not outstanding fuel economy, and a generally pleasing working environment. Best of all, if ultimate payload is important to you, the Renault will be hard to beat. As a good, honest all-round workhorse, the Midlum shouldn't be overlooked
