Deputy editor, Motor Transport
dominic.perry@rbi.co.uk
I'm deputy editor of Motor Transport. There's an old joke that says a deputy editor picks up the work that no one else wants to do, although I'm not sure it applies in this case. However, it does mean I'm responsible for the features and technical content, as well as providing a great deal of the news stories both for Motor Transport and Roadtransport.com.
I also look after MT's Viewpoint section, write the occasional leader and make sure our semi-trained gibbon is sufficiently fed and watered to bash out the odd Highwayman column.
Apart from the sadly commonplace company collapses I've had to write about this year (Macfarlane and Amtrak topping 2008's list), I enjoy those stories that require serious investigation or research to uncover. The benchmark of a good story in my eyes is the amount of time I've spent wrestling with our media lawyers to get it cleared for publication.
I've been writing about the road transport industry for at least eight years now – having previously filled a number of roles on Commercial Motor. I enjoy meeting people in the industry and finding out what's happening in their sector – face-to-face meetings inevitably yield stronger relationships.
Outside of work it's all about life on two wheels. I ride, break, fix and occasionally race mountain, road and cyclocross bikes.
