The Little Green Truck is Commercial Motor’s campaign to raise environmental awareness among those in the industry, as well as the people who benefit most from commercial vehicles: the public. Our aim is simple. With campaign supporters Michelin and Shell Lubricants, we’ll be providing help and advice for truck and van operators over the coming months on how to tread a safe path through the current environmental minefield, as well as helping them to reduce their environmental footprint along the way.
But the Little Green Truck campaign isn’t just about self-help, although that’s an important part of it. It will also provide operators with facts and figures to help counter the tired old myths about HGVs being dirty and smelly. Those same facts, such as how many millions of tonnes of CO2 the industry saved last year, can also be used to show customers what is going on in the supply chain in terms of green initiatives.
Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be providing you with a green ‘tool kit’ that can help boost your image – and your profits, because going green has clear cost benefits. We’ll be producing a guide to fuel efficiency measures, and explaining how to set up a workable environmental policy with its own environmental audit and built-in action plan, so you can chart your progress to a greener world.
A special green supplement will explain the best ways to go about reducing your carbon footprint beyond your trucks, by including energy savings that can be made in the office and workshop. And for operators looking to buy new kit, we will put together a green guide to the forthcoming CV Show, highlighting what to watch out for in terms of new equipment and products.
And last but not least, we’ll be running a special Environmental Conference in October at Villa Park in Birmingham, and there will be a series of special Green Awards that celebrate the best environmental practice in the industry.
