About Will Shiers

I’m Will Shiers, and I’m the technical editor on Motor Transport.

As well as producing a few pages of technical news each week, I also get to do a lot of van and truck driving – much of which is on the Continent. And seeing that two of my biggest passions are driving and travelling, I guess it’s safe to say that I’m in my perfect job. Although this probably isn’t the wisest thing to admit to, as it’s hardly going to improve my chances of getting a pay rise!

I’m passionate about almost everything with wheels, and the general rule is the older and uglier the better. To give you some idea of what I’m talking about, I drive a Ford Scorpio, I have an Allegro quadratic steering wheel and Vauxhall Viva HB grille and headlights in my lounge (much to my girlfriend’s annoyance), and my dream car is an AMC Pacer.

And I’ve got some strange hobbies too. I’m into classic hearses, banger racing, and photographing scrap vehicles. I’ve been pointing my camera at abandoned American cars and trucks in barns, fields, deserts and junkyards for the past decade, and have just had my first book published. It’s called Roadside Relics – America's Abandoned Automobiles and it’s available from all good book shops. How’s that for a shameless plug?

Anyway, I’m going to be blogging on all things van and truck, although you can also expect to be bored with stories from my travels too I’m afraid.
