New site means new focus

Armed with new £4m premises Britcom International is targeting the domestic market with its one-stop-shop engineering services. The move across Market Weighton to York Road has given scope to cater for more business.

As operations manager Brent Carmichael, 25 years with the company, explains the UK isn’t an area the company, renowned for its export credentials, has really focussed on. “We are a well kept secret,” he says, “we have never advertised domestically and the work we have done has been in-house to meet orders for overseas.”
Aftersales has become something of a buzzword for the road transport industry because it continues to bring in operator cash long after the truck has been sold. But to do it means providing a service that can match, or better, that of the manufacturers.
Previous engineering work concentrated on building plant trailers, drawbars, conversions and working on plant equipment, but the move has opened up new markets for bespoke work where operators will pay that little extra for what they need.
“We will do all vehicle type approval as well,” adds Carmichael. “We will take it on, as we now have the facilities, not to mention a fully trained professional workforce, to expand in the domestic market.”
