Today in Road Transport, 28 March 2008

Today we hear from another operator forced to pay fines for entering the London LEZ while waiting for a smoke test, and the BVRLA advises that many firms running trucks in the capital could be better off just renting the vehicles they need.

Mercedes-Benz also figures prominently in today’s news: as well as having a sales push on its Vito van this year to close the gap on the VW Transporter, the manufacturer is making its ECO-Start anti-idling device standard across its 7.5-tonne range.

Other than that, it’s a real mixed bag: SfL calls for a more professional career structure for transport managers, Innovate Logistics’ Peter Osborne explains his surprise decision to exit the business, and Wincanton jobs could be under threat at two depots in the north of England.

In the blogs, BigLorryBlog checks out Hatcher’s Sky Cab for the Volvo FL.
