Today in Road Transport, 20 May 2008

Continuing on from the theme of business costs in yesterday's 'Today in Road Transport', today's main news stories focus on rising fuel prices. The latest RHA fuel price survey reveals that hauliers are being warned to expect further increases of up to 6p/lit, and as a result the association is calling on haulage buyers to accept rate rises.

On a similar note, one Norfolk paving haulier has enlisted a lawyer to investigate the legality of the government's fuel tax regime.

Our other breaking legal story concerns haulage firm Pollock (Scotrans); an employment judge has accused its director of showing "callous disregard" for an employee's feelings after refusing him time off to grieve for his brother's death.

Yesterday we warned of a scam that could cost unwary operators dearly, but today we report on a far more dangerous piece of trickery - bogus LGV licences being sold on the internet for £250.

And over in the blogs, Ollie Dixon looks at whether US operators will accept SCR as the route to EPA10 compliance.
