Today in Road Transport, 28 May 2008

RT.com now has more on yesterday's fuel protests, including details of the impassioned speeches on the state of the industry that Transaction's founders gave. But the cost of diesel isn't the only threat that UK road transport faces - the spectre of unrestricted cabotage across the EU is looming ever larger.

Yesterday's fuel protests figure prominently in today's news

Increasingly difficult trading conditions could be one of the reasons why more managers in haulage are being made redundant (although average wages are still on the rise). And there's bad news for Asda employees - the supermarket is to close its Ince, Wigan distribution depot with the possible loss of up to 50 driver jobs.

In manufacturer news today, Nissan unveils its bold plan to re-establish itself as on of the top players in the world's light CV sector, launching 13 all-new light commercials. And over in the World Trucks Blog, Oliver Dixon has the lowdown on AB Volvo's deal with Indian OEM Eicher.
