Today in Road Transport, 26 August 2008

Failing firms hit the news once more as the parent firm of Midlands-based parcels operator Amtrak goes into administration and Scottish operator Sandy McCracken calls in the provisional liquidators.

There's more bad news on the legislative front: the European Commission is proposing that livestock is unloaded and rested every eight hours, while the upcoming review of domestic drivers' hours legislation is causing "grave concerns" among drivers and operators.

Over in the blogs, BigLorryBlog has photos of some classic Atkis and Fodens, as well as Mack and Freightliner mixers and pumpers. Oliver Dixon, meanwhile, examines Daimler and Chrysler's disbanding of their joint venture in China, and predicts what Paccar's Q3 results might look like.
