Today in Road Transport, 9 September

As our shores receive a barrage of wet weather, we turn our attention to the Continent. MEPs have called on the European Commission to make rail freight a priority and reduce Europe's reliance on road transport. The motion - backed by a majority of MEPs - calls for funds to be allocated to upgrade the rail infrastructure.
The credit crunch has made its presence felt in the van sector. Prices falling by an average of 9%, according to commercial van buying website vansunited.co.uk.
Meanwhile, on a slightly more positive note, BigLorryBlog offers a sneak preview of what's coming up in a Christmas edition of Commercial Motor. No, it's not a reindeer-led sleigh or an elf-powered go-kart, but a Douglas TBL (towbar-less) tug. If that has whetted your festive appetite, have a gander at the shots.
