Today in Road Transport, 28th January 2009

CMAcademy+Conti+RTcom_200px.jpgThink you know about tyres? Sure your trucks and vans meet the tyre safety regulations? Test your knowledge (and perhaps learn a bit more) at the Commercial Motor Academy on tyre safety (in association with Continental).

The UK truck and van industry (what there is left of it...) could get a boost from the Government after BERR unveiled a £2bn lending package for vehicle manufacturers.

If you operate anywhere near East London, you might want to get involved with the DfT's consultation on traffic management for the 2012 Olympic Games. But be quick: the consultation ends on the 19th of March.

"Operation Stammtisch" sounds like something from a Sven Hassel novel - but it's actually a UK police initiative to talk to truck drivers; after a pilot run by the Metropolitan Police, the scheme is going nationwide.
