Today in Road Transport, 30th January 2009

Hyundai's new panel van, the iLoad, may have to be taken seriously by some of the established names in the sector: the firm is aiming to crack the fleet market with competitive pricing, and Roadtransport.com van guru Julian Milnes says "first impressions are positive, particularly for a vehicle at this price".

DAF parent company Paccar may be one of the most profitable vehicle makers in the world - it has never posted a loss - but its profits fell sharply in 2008, as the recession hit around the world.

Still, some firms are expanding: pallet network Pall-Ex has just set up a joint venture called Pall-Ex Italia (in, er, Italy) - good luck to them. And Stobart has just signed a ten-year, £110m contract with Nestlé UK for seasonal warehousing.

The police truck crime intelligence unit TruckPol is looking vulnerable, and operators are being urged to 'Use it or lose it' - but don't you have to make sure you're a victim of crime first?
